Being Overcomers
Published October 28, 2011We’ve been spending time considering what it means to be an overcomer. Jesus tells us to be overcomers. We are to join Him in “overcoming the world” (John 16.33). He tells us to “take courage.” Yes, it takes courage to be an overcomer. It also takes faith. Published September 16, 2011In the Revelation, as Jesus speaks to the Seven Churches of Asia Minor, He ends His prophecies by telling them each to be overcomers. What did Jesus mean? To be an overcomer in the biblical sense means to prevail or take a victory in a conflict. Jesus is telling believers in the seven churches that they need to stand pat against the forces of evil and prevail. They have the promise of the Holy Spirit to do this (John 14.16; 16.5-10).
