I write this before Friday, the winter solstice, December 21, 2012, when the world in the writings and minds of some is supposed to end. Merry Christmas

These are wonderful words! They carry with them all the color, the sounds, the smells, the anticipation and joy of the season. But these words are falling into disfavor. It seems, if I understand the argument correctly, that such a salutation may offend someone who’s not a Christian. The Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, and practicing pagans in our society must be protected. Apparently the tail wags the dog, so to speak.
