Givers

 Givers
There are “givers” and “takers” in the world, and I suppose that across the years each of us can be found in each category. I was certainly a “taker” when a child in my parents’ home, but thanks be to God that my taking ways did not follow me into adulthood.
Training is needed to help children grow away from taking and into giving adults. This lesson seems to be losing ground in our day. The “welfare state” is prospering among too many young adults. “Feed me, take care of me, do for me”
is their mantra.
Jesus gave us another way. Jesus said, “However you want people to treat you, so treat them, for this is the Law and the Prophets” (Matt.7.12). He also said, “Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will pour into your lap. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return” (Luke 6.38).
You can’t out give God, who showed us by His own sacrifice on Calvary’s Cross that “greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends” (John 15.13).
Be a giver this year. Love more, take less, and honor God. It all belongs to Him anyway.
