A Test for Reality

Jesus creator of the worldI like watching “Through the Wormhole” with Morgan Freeman on the Science channel. This week’s presentation was on “reality.” Listening to what they had to say one would get the idea that reality is only an illusion. In fact, we all could just be part of a computer program, kind of like the movie “Tron”. Well, that could be. I guess anything is possible, but not always probable.

The thing that gets me, which has a bit more meaning to it, is that quite obviously one person’s reality is not another’s. It comes down to perception. How do we see our world and those around us? Do we perceive the world as a place of hazards, unfortunate circumstances, or even a place where things will go wrong more than they go right? Or, do we perceive the world as God’s creation, imbued with the potential for good?

Yes, it’s easy to be cynical, but does such an attitude really define what’s real?

It finally comes down to your worldview. Is it Christian, is it secular…or is it something else?

Jesus gave us a strong example for viewing the world when He said, “But if God so arrays the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more do so for you, O men of little faith” (Matt.6.30)? In other words, adjust your perception to what God says, not what man perceives to be real.

God says (my paraphrase), “I created the world for you. I created a Paradise, but you preferred to see things your way. Therefore, you lost the correct perception, and because I love you and want you to have abundant life, I have persevered with you. I even came personally to help you regain the true reality.” And what is that? It’s the beauty of God’s divine will and purpose in love.

That’s the reason that Paul can write to the Corinthians saying, “Love…bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (1 Cor.13.7).

Test your reality with love.
