Power is an issue. It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about using energy in our homes or cars, or if we’re talking about spiritual matters of faith, perseverance and behavior , we need power. Sadly, most of us feel powerless. Why? Because we seemingly have no control over our lives. Each day is another stumbling gamble. This should not be the case for Christ revering believers.

First of all, we have the power of salvation. The Bible says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…” (Rom. 1.16). Then we have the power of the resurrection, where we “know Him and the power of His resurrection…”(Phil. 3.10). And, we have the power of the Holy Spirit. This power is always available so that we will “abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Rom. 15.13).

Our problem is the disconnect. We are too easily sidetracked and disabled. When Peter stepped out of the boat to join Jesus, walking on the water, he was doing well until “seeing the wind he became afraid” (Matt. 14.30). We too are overtaken and caught-up in worldly fears. But, “if God is for us who is against us” (Rom.8.31)?

Really it’s a matter of faith, and that’s no surprise. To have the power, we need the faith. Or, put in another way, if you’re going to experience power in your life, the very power of God, you need to believe Him, not yourself.

We often talk negatively to ourselves. The devil helps, too, by telling us we’re no good, and we can’t do anything right, and there’s no use trying because it’s all going to burn anyway. Where’s our faith to take God at His Word?

The Bible teaches us that nothing is impossible with God (Luke 2.37). The Bible teaches us in Christ Jesus, by His Spirit, and in the promises that He’s given us that “we can asked anything in His name and He will do it” (John 14.14). That’s power. That’s life, and that is hope.
